“Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.” – Titus 2:3-5 (NIV)
There is an important need for mentorship in the life of a woman. Titus 2 women teach younger women how to love/care for thier family. We are to be taught to be chaste, to have self-control, to be sober, to have a kind heart, and to be cool-natured. Let us take time and break down the scriptures listed above.
Qualities of a Titus 2 Woman
-Titus 2 woman lives righteously. She is repentant, gracious, and humble.
-Ephesians 4:29," Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen,". This ideology shapes the way she speaks. A true Titus 2 woman spreads life and prosperity through her words. She turns away from gossip.
- A Titus 2 woman practices self control in all areas of her life. She is not over indulgent in food or wine nor is she over extravagant with her attire.
-She seeks the face of God through prayer and the studying of His Word and drowns herself in His prescence.
The Value of a Titus 2 Woman
-The value of a Titus 2 woman lies in her knowledge through life experiences. She has already "been there, done that," and can provide sound advice for younger/novice women.
-Through her living example we learn how to properly love our husbands/children. We learn what is to be submissive and how to apply it. Ephesians 5:22-23, " Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body,". We are to be companions to our husbands, not doormats .Let me clarify, we were created equally but with different purposes in marriage and childrearing. Being submissive is to show respect for our husbands and their position as the head of household; he is also required to love us as Christ loves the Church .
-We are to exercise self control. Through the life of a Titus 2 woman, she shows us the importance of righteous living. Self control becomes easier when we are pure in heart, mind, and speech.
-She can teach us tips and tricks on homemaking and how to maintain it while working a full time job.
-She is a prayer warrior, she blesses the home as she cleans, she prays over her husband and children regularly. She helps instill God's Word into the lives of her children. She uses God's Word to lift up her Husband when he is weak. She is a powerful influence to her husband's decision making. She is full of Godly wisdom.
In conclusion we all need a Titus 2 woman in our life for cultivation and one day we will be required to be Titus 2 woman to someone in need. We must continue this cycle. My Grandmother was a Titus 2 woman and she left a legacy to be remembered to many young women. My blog post/OOTD is inspired by her and the impact she left on many lives. I love you Grandma Helen and miss you dearly.
