Stay A"Breast" of Your Bra Size

Updated: Mar 21, 2021

Breasts are an expression of a woman's delicacy and nurture. They are the first source of nutrition for our newborns and thereafter a comfort. Breasts are beautiful and come in all shapes and sizes. These are two of the many wonderful curves found on a female's body. Did you know that breasts are also a similitude of comfort and nourishment of the Holy Spirit? Isaiah 66:10-11 says, "Rejoice ye with Jerusalem, and be glad with her, all ye that love her: rejoice for joy with her, all ye that mourn with her. For you will nurse and be satisfied at her comforting breasts; you will drink deeply and delight in her overflowing abundance,".

Now the Holy Scripture refers to Jerusalem as "Her", and the Hebrew meaning of the word Jerusalem means "City of Peace". So, how wonderful it is to be created "Woman"- to be fashioned physically to bear allegory to the City Of Peace. The woman's body was made to bear and give life, and thereafter, nurture that life, just like Jerusalem. Her breast satisfies and comforts. Where does the Holy Spirit come in? The Holy Spirit is the Holy substance located in the City of Peace. The simple truths of God's word are like milk. 1 Peter 2:2 says, "Like newborn babies, crave the pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation,". Simon Peter inquired of Jesus (The Word Of God) a simple truth when Jesus said that one of his disciples would betray him. John 13:25 says, "He then laying on Jesus' breast saith unto him, Lord, who is it?" Then Jesus immediately responded with the answer. So in like manner, we who lay in the comfort of the breast of the Word -Which is Jesus shall always receive his milk. For he is the land flowing with Milk and Honey that the prophets foretold. It is an honor to be fashioned in likeness to this Holy mystery!

As you can see breasts are more than objects of lust. They have complex meanings and we should respectfully care for them. One way we can begin to preserve the health of our breasts is by wearing the correct bra size. 80% of women currently have the incorrect size, Listed below is a guide explaining how to calculate the size you need with a tape measure.

How to calculate your correct starting bra size :

Band Size

While braless, use a measuring tape to measure around your torso directly under your bust, where a bra band would sit. Ensure that the tape is level (parallel to the floor) and snug/firm. Round to the nearest whole number. If the number is even, add four inches. If it’s odd, add five. Your band size is the sum of this calculation. (So if you measured 32 inches, your band size is 36. If you measured 33 inches, your band size is 38.)

Cup Size

If able, bend over with your back parallel to the floor. This act brings your total breast tissue together to achieve the most accurate sizing, At the nipple level, loosely wrap the measuring tape around the fullest part of your chest and round to the nearest whole number. If you experience excessive sagging/emptiness then take your measurements as listed above once while in the bent-over position, once lying on your back, and once standing straight up. Calculate the average of the three measurements

Subtract your calculated band size from your bust measurement and refer to the bra cup size chart here. Your bra size is your band size with your cup size. Write the size chart down for future references.

Cup Sizes are not standard. They are unique and specific to the band sizes, A 34D is bigger than a 30E Unfortunately, American Sizing is widely inaccurate. Many high-end lingerie boutiques and online businesses utilize a British sizing system.

Tips to Ensure a Great Fit

-"Always scoop and swoop"- bend over, hike the girls into proper position. That excess back fat, armpit rolls, peak-a-boo side boob needs to be in your bra is all displaced breast tissue.

-The bra band is level to the floor, it is not hiking up your back and it is supportive.

-The straps should not be digging in,

-The centerpiece (gore) must sit firmly against your chest. If this occurs, this means that the wires aren't in proper placement underneath your breasts, This is failing to give adequate support.

-Your breasts must smoothly fit into the entire cup. The underwire must encase all breast tissue including armpit fat. There should be no overflowing, if so you should opt for a larger cup size.

-A tight band can be attributed to a cup size that is too small, you may need to advance a size or two. Maybe you may need to go up in band size if the cup size fits justly. Remember, it can also take a few days to break in a new bra.

- A bra band that rides up your back can indicate the need for smaller band size. If so, you may need to increase the cup size because the band and cup size are relative to each other.

-If the centerpiece (gore) isn't tacking and your band is not tight you may need to go down a band size. If that isn't the case and it fits just right then you may need to get a smaller cup size.

-Breasts that spill over- Swoop and Scoop/hike'em up! But, if it isn't positioning you to need a larger cup size.

-Empty space at the bottom of the cup, swoop'em/scoop 'em/ hike'em up. This corrects bulges and spillage. However, if you have hiked to the high heavens and can go no further then you may need a smaller bra or the design is best for your shape.

-Empty space at the top of the cup? Swoop'em/Scoop'em. If this does not fix the issue, this can be because you may need a smaller cup or the design does not benefit your shape. If your straps are digging in the shoulders, loosen the shoulder straps, but if you begin to sag suddenly then this can indicate a band that is not supporting you.

-Armpit rolls-"Swoop'em/Scoop'em! Remember armpit rolls are displaced breast tissue. A proper fitting bra will allow the breast tissue to migrate back in its place and the armpit rolls may eventually disappear. If this isn't the case then the design is not made for your unique shape.4

-You cannot find your size. Have you looked online? I will link some resources at the bottom of the blog.

-Wash by hand and hang dry, the heat and tumble shorten the life of the bra and the elasticity.

-Go by your calculated measurements to get your starting size and adjust from there.

-There is no need to measure your "overbust."There is no purpose.

-Always Remember cup size is relative to band size!
